Filming protocol
A thirty-second phone video of the task tells a builder more than a page of text. Here is how to film it so it can be shown to members without exposing anyone.
Before you film
- Tell the people on the line what you are filming and why. Where faces will appear in the original footage, get their consent; you attest to it when you upload original media.
- Pick a moment that shows the real work: the normal pace, the normal mess, the normal objects.
- Check the frame for company names, logos, badges, signage, screens with customer data, and anything with an address on it.
Two versions
Redacted is what registered members see. Blur faces, hide or crop out logos and signage, mute names in the audio. Most phones and free editors can blur a region.
Original is what one introduced builder sees after a mutual yes. Upload it only if you have the consents above. You can post without it.
What to capture
- The input: how objects arrive (bin, conveyor, pallet, shelf, tote).
- The task itself, two or three full cycles at normal speed.
- The output: where the finished work goes.
- The surroundings: who is within reach, how much space there is, what else moves through.
- The hard cases: the object that always jams, the one that breaks, the awkward reach.
Add a voice note if that is easier than typing: what hurts, how often, what you have tried.
Files
- Photos as JPEG or PNG up to 50 megapixels, or as GIF or WebP up to 20 (an animation up to full HD, and 50 megapixels counting every frame); video as MP4 or MOV; voice notes as M4A, MP3 or WAV. Up to 28 MB in one save; add more in another save.
- On an iPhone, choose Most Compatible under Settings, Camera, Formats, or export the photo as JPEG: HEIC photos aren't taken yet.
- When a file is added, the matchmaker removes what it says about where and by whom it was made (GPS position, device and owner names, dates and titles in its properties) and gives it a neutral caption such as "Video 1" instead of its file name. This doesn't touch the picture or the sound: what the camera saw and the microphone heard still needs redacting by you.
- PDF, WebM and Ogg files are kept exactly as they are, so they go in the original media only. Check their properties for names and places before adding them.
What not to upload
- Faces, name badges or voices saying names, in the redacted version.
- Anything showing patient, customer or employee data.
- Anything you are not allowed to film under your own site rules.
Dunster reviews every post and will send it back if the redacted media is not clean.
